The construction industry in Malaysia has seen tremendous development and urbanization, playing an important role in the country’s economic structure through providing employment opportunities as well infrastructure. But a problem remains persistent which prevents its progress – the lack of qualified local personnel. This thesis touches upon the various dimensions of this problem tracing its origins, effects and offering viable solutions. It lists such underlying causes as lack of proper vocational training courses, facing the reality problem with an ageing workforce population, low wage compensation and relying on foreign workers.
