Abstract : UNIRAZAK Library |
Equipment reliability plays a critical role for safe and efficient operation of the petrochemical industry, where equipment failures can lead to costly downtime and safety risks to the workers. This study aims to explore the determinants impacting equipment reliability, which focus on the correlation between three factors: training and development, equipment design, and maintenance quality. Online questionnaire consisting of 20 questions was distributed to 384 participants who are working in the petrochemical industry across Malaysia with 100% of response rate was achieved. The sample size was calculated using Raosoft sample size calculator with 95% confidence level. Cronbach’s Alpha was used for reliability analysis to assess the degree of correlation between the factors. The findings revealed that equipment design shows the strongest positive correlation with equipment reliability with a correlation coefficient of 0.586, followed by maintenance quality (0.430), and training and development (0.258). Based on these insights, this research recommends a balanced approach for organisations looking to improve equipment reliability such as investing in smart design, enhance maintenance practices with data, and continue developing a skilled, knowledgeable workforce. When combined, these factors provide a solid foundation for successful operations. |
