Abstract : Perpustakaan Tuanku Bainun
This research aims to explore the effects of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems on the operational performance and competitiveness of organizations, with a specific focus on the automation industry. The study investigates how various dimensions of ERP systems contribute to enhancing organizational effectiveness, resource optimization, and decision-making processes. The research is quantitative in nature, based on data from capital-intensive process industries that have deployed seventeen different ERP systems over time. Structured questionnaires for key stakeholders involved in ERP implementation are used to collect data and simple percentages, mean score and gm technique are applied on analysis SPSS tool. The results show the following effects, in order of magnitude: ERP System Capabilities, Organizational Context and Industry Characteristics all explain highly significant positive variation in organizational competitiveness while Organizational Workflows contributed nothing statistically important to competitiveness. All together, they explain 84.3% of the variance in competitiveness. Comparing that to their impact on the organizational performance they have a lesser effect, explaining 51.7% of its variance, with only Organizational Context showing a positive marginal effect. The practical implications of this research are that managers should invest in ERP systems, offer a supportive organizational context, and align with industry demands to boost competitiveness. This form of growth in workflows may not be enough; instead, sustainable growth is the requirement, which calls for a combined approach by encompassing technology, leadership, and strategy. This research contributes to the literature by providing a nuanced understanding of the role ERP systems play in the automation industry, highlighting their pivotal contributions to both performance enhancement and competitive positioning. The study's focus on the automation industry, combined with empirical data analysis, adds a unique perspective to the ERP literature.
